Description
49 Commercial Street is a three-storey building with a cellar, featuring five windows. It is part of a row that includes Nos 48 and 51, which were formerly back-to-back properties. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brick and has gently pitched slate roofs with a saw-toothed eaves cornice and brick stacks.
The windows include shallow two-light casements that were used for former weaving lofts, small-paned iron opening lights at Nos 48 and 50, and cambered header arches above the first and ground floor windows. No 48 has small-paned iron lights in timber cross windows, while No 49 features timber cross windows. No 50 has Victorian sash windows, and No 51 has modern windows.
The doorcases are adorned with leaded dripboards supported by brackets, and the original doors are six-panel designs. A central round-arched tunnel passage previously provided access to Spinner's Court.
