Description

54 and 55 Commercial Street in Penygloddfa, Newtown, is a pair of three-storey buildings with a cellar, constructed in Flemish bond brick. They have a medium-pitched slate roof with a lead ridge and a saw-toothed eaves cornice. The buildings feature brick stacks with modern caps and a central tier of dummy windows. The second-floor windows have shallow upper sashes with 12 panes, while the first and ground floor windows have 16-pane sashes. The reveals are plain, with stone sills and gauged brick voussoirs. The cellar openings below the ground floor windows are topped with cambered header arches. Each building has doorcases with crude gabled hoods supported by brackets. There is a modern door for No 54, while the doorway for No 55 has been converted into a window, with access now available from an adjoining carriage entry.
