Description
54 and 55 Commercial Street in Penygloddfa, Newtown, is a pair of three-storey buildings with a cellar, constructed in Flemish bond brick and originally designed as back-to-back homes. The buildings feature a medium-pitched slate roof with a lead ridge and a saw-toothed eaves cornice. The brick stacks have modern caps.
The central tier of the facade includes dummy windows, while the second floor has shallow upper sashes with 12 panes. The first and ground floor windows are fitted with 16-pane sashes, all having plain reveals, stone sills, and gauged brick voussoirs. The cellar openings below the ground floor windows are topped with cambered header arches.
The doorcases are adorned with crude gabled hoods supported by brackets. The door to No 54 is modern, and the doorway of No 55 has been converted into a window, with access now provided from an adjoining carriage entry.
