Description
Martin Harris (Butcher) at 44 and 45 Commercial Street and 8 Chapel Street in Penygloddfa, Newtown, is a three-storey terrace building with a cellar, constructed in Flemish bond brick. It features a gently pitched slate roof that has a hip facing Chapel Street and a saw-toothed eaves cornice. The building has brick stacks and 8-pane hopper windows on the second floor, while the first floor has 16-pane sash windows, and the ground floor of No 44 has plain reveals, stone sills, and gauged brick voussoirs. No 45 has modern windows. The original doorcases are present at Nos 44, 45, and 8 Chapel Street, with a six-panel door at No 44. There is a 19th-century shopfront for the butcher's, featuring a four-pane sash window to the right and plate glass to the left, along with a recessed central doorway with a half-glazed door. Brackets support the cornice, which has a name-board above. A round-arched tunnel passage is located at the extreme right. The elevation facing Chapel Street has been significantly altered due to the addition of modern windows.
