Description

5,6 & 7 and Textile Museum over, Commercial Street, Newtown

4 storey and cellar. Three, 2 storey, 1 window industrial houses with 2 storey, 6 bay flannel factory over. Nos 5 and 6 reflected; No 7 formerly back to back, tunnel passage between. Flemish bond brick. Gently pitched slate roof, pitch daubed. Saw toothed eaves cornice, plain barge boards. Brick end stacks. 3 light timber casements to 4th floor factory windows set below eaves. Similar with cambered header arches to 3rd floor. Small paned iron cross windows to 1st and ground floors. Cambered gauged brick voussoirs. Shallow reveals, no sills. Cambered header arches to cellars. Dripboards on brackets to doorcases. 6 panel doors to Nos 5 and 6. Later 4 panel door to No 7, stone staircases with iron railings. Round arch to tunnel passage.

Windows on rear largely modern. Plank doors. Wash houses and latrines in yard. Separate external timber stair to factory floors, original door.

Factory floors house the collection of Newtown Textile Museum.
