Description

The Forge is a two-storey building dating from the 19th century, featuring a rendered exterior and a slate roof. The rear section has a catslide roof and there are two rendered end stacks with brick tops. The entrance is a modern boarded door that is accessed by four steps, with small-paned bow windows on either side that are also modern. On the first floor, there are 19th-century iron casements set in chamfered timber frames.

Attached to the east end of the house is a single-storey blacksmith's shop with an adjoining stable. This section is constructed from coursed rubble blocks and has a slate roof, with a rubble end stack for the smithy. It includes a two-light window with boarded external shutters and boarded doors, along with a cambered voussoir lintel above the smithy door and stable window.

Inside, the smithy retains its original features, including a large fireplace with a raised hearth set in a massive rubble stack, which has offsets and a slightly arched opening with a brick cambered lintel. There is also a smaller fireplace that is now blocked, located in the stack attached to the end of the house. The interior includes a single tie-beam truss with a king post, and there are shadows of timber framing and chamfered beams visible.
