Description

This building is a smithy with an attached stable, located next to No. 1 High Street. It dates from the 19th century and stands two storeys tall, featuring a rendered exterior and a slate roof. The rear section has a catslide roof, and there are two rendered end stacks with brick tops. The entrance is a central, modern boarded door that is accessed by four steps. On either side of the door are modern small-paned bow windows. The first floor has 19th-century iron casements set in chamfered timber frames.

The blacksmith's shop is a single-storey structure that connects to the stable at the east end of the house. It is built from coursed rubble blocks and has a slate roof, with a rubble end stack for the smithy. The shop features a two-light window with boarded external shutters and boarded doors. The door to the smithy and the stable window have cambered voussoir lintels.

Inside, the smithy remains unaltered and includes a large fireplace with a raised hearth set in a massive rubble stack, featuring offsets and a slightly arched opening with a brick cambered lintel. There is also a smaller fireplace, which is now blocked, in the stack attached to the end of the house. The interior has a single tie-beam truss with a king post, and shadows of timber framing and chamfered beams are visible.
