Wern Newydd Farmhouse

Wern Newydd Farmhouse is a mid-17th century building that stands two storeys high with attics. It has an L-shaped layout featuring an original storeyed porch at the front angle, a 19th-century dairy lean-to on the east side, and a modern gabled extension to the north. The structure is built of rubble stone with slate roofs, including a large rubble lateral stack on the north side and a rendered end stack with a brick upper on the east. There is a small gabled roof dormer, and while the doors and windows are largely modern replacements, there are small paned timber casements, a French window on the front left, and a blocked window above the porch.

The farmhouse boasts a fine front door made of double boards with moulded ribs, elaborate hinges, and studding within a richly moulded door frame. It retains its original plan form, featuring partition walls of wide stud construction, which is an unusually early example. Throughout the house, there are chamfered and stopped beams. A notable feature is the ornate oak staircase that rises from the wide central hall passage, complete with baluster rails around the well on the first floor. The staircase has a closed string, flat carved balusters, a deep moulded handrail, squared newels with ovolo mouldings, and unusually extended ball finials. The parlour to the west includes a large open fireplace with a timber lintel and an inserted bread oven.
