Nant Ystalwyn

Nant Ystalwyn is a long, two-storey building dating from the 18th century, featuring a house on the right end and a service unit on the left. There is a small adjoining bakehouse positioned at right angles to the far left. The structure is built from rubble stone and topped with a slate roof, which has a projecting stone stack at the right end and a brick ridge stack in the center. A small skylight is present on the roof pitch.

The house on the right end has three windows, with the central openings slightly offset to the right. The entrance features a half-glazed planked door, with the light boarded over. The flanking windows are also boarded, although the right window is partly visible as a sash. All openings have flat heads and stone sills. The upper storey windows are 3-over-3-pane horned sashes, with the left window boarded over and aligned with the openings below. To the left of the brick stack is the joint of a former doorway, with a late 20th-century window to its left. Further left, at the angle with the bakehouse, there is a planked door beneath a shallow segmental head made of stone voussoirs. Above this door is another 3-over-3-pane horned sash under a similar head.

The single-storey bakehouse has a stone ridge stack offset to the left and a planked door that is offset to the right, reaching up to the eaves. There are signs of alterations towards the center of the wall, and an opening in the gable end is also offset to the left. The rear of the house is built into the hillside and features a 4-pane window towards the center of the house part on the upper storey, which likely lights the stairs.

Access to the interior was not available at the time of inspection.
