Description
Badland Farmhouse is an L-plan building dating from the 18th century, featuring two parallel rear service wings, an adjoining single-storey bakehouse, and a lean-to verandah. The structure is constructed of brick, which has been overpainted in red with white quoining and keyblocks. It has slate roofs, two brick stacks, deep verges with bargeboards, and drop-finials. All elevations include gabled eaves dormers. The front porch is enclosed with lattice-work sides and a glazed door, while the rear has boarded doors. The windows consist of large-paned sashes under cambered lintels and a three-light casement in the kitchen.
The interior retains many period features, although some fireplaces have been replaced. The dairy wing includes stone salting and cooling slabs set on brick piers, while the kitchen boasts a large fireplace with a spit rack above, a panelled alcove cupboard, and numerous ceiling hooks. The front rooms are adorned with coved and moulded ceiling cornices. The dog-leg staircase features planked undersides, a moulded ramped handrail, and chamfered stick balusters. The doors are plain four-panel designs with chamfered detailing.
