Description

This milestone, likely from the early 19th century, is set into the grass verge on the south side of the A458, opposite the house known as Dolerfyl. It is a flat, upright slab made of shale, which was previously limewashed. The milestone features deeply chamfered corners and a flat top, standing approximately 600 millimeters high and 460 millimeters wide. The front face has a carved inscription that reads:

Machynlleth
24 Miles
Canoffice 1
Llanfair 6
Pool 14

It is listed as a well-preserved example of an early 19th-century milestone, recognized for its good condition and historical significance, as it provides evidence of turnpiking.
