Description
Bryn Erfyl and Tynllan are two houses, each with a two-unit plan and two storeys, featuring four chimney stacks, one at or near the end of each house.
Bryn Erfyl has a symmetrical layout with a central doorway. It is topped with a slate roof and has brick gable end chimney stacks. The exterior is made of random rubble masonry in large blocks, with the gable end rendered in rough cast and painted white. The upper storey features timber windows beneath the eaves, including two casement windows with 16 panes and a central narrow window with 8 panes. The ground floor has two tripartite cast iron windows, each section containing 8 panes, set under segmental brick arches that are two bricks thick, with chamfered brick sills. There is a modern front door and porch. At the rear, the eaves are lower than at the front, and there is a small extension. The upper storey has three dormers, all with sash windows.
Tynllan is constructed of random rubble masonry, using smaller and paler stones than Bryn Erfyl. It appears to have been built against Bryn Erfyl but shows evidence of many changes in its structure. The upper storey has three wooden casement windows with 16 panes beneath the eaves, though there may have once been four windows. The ground floor features three wooden casement or fixed light windows under segmental brick arches that are one brick thick, with the leftmost window having 12 lights. It has plain stone sills and a wooden, panelled half-lit door under a segmental brick arch, located immediately below the second window from the left, resulting in a non-symmetrical layout. The rear of Tynllan is similar to the front but includes a small lean-to, and there is an additional range extending from the north gable, likely a later addition, which contains long, horizontal windows with small panes.
