Description
This milestone, possibly dating from the early 19th century, is located on the grass verge on the north side of the A458 between Llanerfyl and Llangadfan, approximately 0.5 kilometers east of the community boundary. It is a flat, upright slab of shale, much of which is buried. The milestone was previously limewashed and features deeply chamfered corners and a flat top. The front face has a carved inscription that reads: "Machynlleth 23 Miles Canoffice 0 Llanfair" (with the Llanfair part being partially buried). It is listed as a comparatively well-preserved example of an early 19th-century milestone, providing evidence of turnpiking.
