Description

2 Bowling Green Lane is a simple vernacular building that stands two stories tall with a three-window front. It likely dates from the 18th century but has earlier origins and later additions. Notable features include a higher cross wing at the right rear, which has whitewashed lean-tos at the back and on the left gable.

The building has whitewashed rubble on No 1 and cement render on No 2, with brick heightened chimney stacks. It features a slate roof, plain bargeboards, and wide raised eaves. The first floor has plain reveals and timber casements. No 1 has a later splayed bay with a panelled and half-glazed door topped by a flat timber hood on arched brackets, while No 2 has a projecting porch. The two-window cross wing has a pitched roof over its porch and a casement window with a cambered brick head. There is a vertical joint in the centre, indicating the depth of the original house.

Inside, the building showcases exposed timber-studded cross walls from the 17th or early 18th century box frame. The main joists have plain chamfers, and there are stone fireplaces with timber lintels and an exposed chimney breast on the upper floor. The ground floor room in the cross wing features four-panelled fitted cupboards.
