Description
This is a Grade II listed lamp post dated 1867, which features relocated cast-iron gothic railings and one lamp post that were originally part of a road bridge over Wylcwm Brook. The construction of these elements is possibly linked to the opening of the Norton Arms Hotel in the same year.
The railings consist of two equal lengths of cut ironwork set at right angles to each other, supported by modern stonework and concrete plinths and piers. The uprights are designed with continuous pointed arches beneath cylindrical handrails, and there are finials on the bottom rail. Additionally, there are two shorter sections of railings with similar ironwork detailing to the north.
The lamp post is located at the right end and features an octagonal base section, a fluted stem, and an ornamental cap. The bottom rail has raised lettering that reads: "S W Williams County Surveyor Radnorshire. AD 1867." The inscription on the lamp post states: "W Thomas. Llanidloes Foundry."
