Description

Wern Tower is a two-window cottage dating from the 19th century, built of rendered rubble stone with slate roofs and 19th-century brick stacks. The left end features a stack in a projection supported by a raked buttress, while the right end has a second stack. Beyond this stack is an additional unit of rubble stone, likely added later, with a slightly recessed front wall. The rendered section has a boarded door located slightly to the right of center, which is sheltered by a gabled porch hood. Flanking the door are casement windows, with a three-light window on the left and a two-light window on the right. The upper storey has two gabled dormers, each fitted with late 20th-century two-light casements. The recessed unit on the right includes a two-light metal casement window in the upper storey. The north gable end features two pairs of two-light windows at ground floor level, with a metal casement on the left and a wood-framed window on the right. There is a 20th-century panelled door at the rear of the rubble unit, accompanied by a wooden casement window to its left, which is protected by a corrugated asbestos lean-to roof. To the right, there is a stone lean-to with a small window on the north side and a 20th-century window on the west side, connecting to a stable range that extends west at a right angle.

Inside, there is a central stair hall with reception rooms on either side. The room on the left features a large stone fireplace with a cambered timber lintel that has a slight chamfer. The ceiling includes a cross beam and a spine beam, both with shallow chamfers, which meet at the center, along with similar joists. The room on the right has not been entered.
