Description
The Signal Box at Abergele and Pensarn Railway Station is a timber-framed structure built on a high red brick basement plinth. It features five small iron-framed windows on each side. The box has seven bays of alternating sliding and fixed windows that overlook the railway tracks, with two bays at one end and one bay at the other end. Below the windows, there is a bracketed walkway for cleaning. The exterior is clad in weatherboarding between the windows and at the eaves, with both gable ends also finished in weatherboarding. The roof is pitched and covered with slate, topped with terminal finials. At the western end, a straight flight ladder with a handrail provides access to a half-glazed door. There are iron-framed boxes at ground level, which are mostly blocked, allowing the lever rods to connect to the longitudinal signalling rods laid between the tracks.
Inside, the box contains a 60 lever frame of Tumbler type, although many of the levers are no longer in use.
