Description

Ferryside Signal Box is a two-storey structure with a brick ground floor, partly pebble dashed, and an upper floor featuring vertical timber boarding. The trackside elevation has a continually glazed gallery with small pane windows, which have been replaced with uPVC but maintain the original form. The building has a gabled slate roof with eaves brackets and plain bargeboards.

On the east trackside elevation, there are original round-headed windows with small framed glazing on the pebble-dashed lower floor, showing signs of a projecting low-level canopy over the signal wires. The name plate 'FERRYSIDE SIGNAL BOX' is positioned above the upper floor gallery, which has a replaced single 12-light window in the center and 9-light sashes on either side that were formerly horizontal sliding. The south elevation features a central boarded door on the lower floor, with feather edge boarding above and two replaced windows offset, a fixed window to the left, and a former sliding sash to the right. There is a ventilation panel in the gable. The north elevation includes a replaced projecting deck and access stair to the upper floor with a timber handrail, a central part-glazed door leading to the lever room, a fixed (replaced) 12-light window to the left, and a projecting toilet extension to the right, along with a ventilation panel in the gable. The plain rear (west) elevation has a slightly projecting brick stack reduced to the eaves line.

Inside, the upper floor retains the operating floor with locking levers, a block shelf, bells, and a track layout plan. The lower floor houses a 24-lever frame that dates from 1898 and remains intact.
