Description
This monument commemorates the great rail disaster of 1868 and is located in the churchyard of the Church of St Michael. It features a granite tablet with cut and gilded lettering, positioned between pink granite columns that support a gabled head. The soffit above the tablet is shaped like a trefoil and also bears gilded lettering along with an IHS monogram. The monument stands on a twice chamfered stone plinth and is surrounded by an elongated burial ground measuring approximately 19 meters by 3 meters, which is defined by limestone posts and iron chains.
