Description

The Schoolmaster's House, part of the former Abergele Church School, is a building constructed from polygonal shaped blocks of limestone with sandstone dressings, topped with blue slate roofs featuring a zig-zag pattern of green slates. It has a two-bay 'L'-shaped plan, with the wing to the west containing the former dining room. The eastern elevation features a gabled northern bay and a part-external stack with sloping shoulders above the eaves of the southern bay living room, which rises to an octagonal stack. There is a stair window, and a mid-wall string that steps up twice over a 4-panelled door located in the re-entrant southwest angle, flanked by windows. All windows are stone mullioned. A roofed corridor connects the house directly to the school.

To the northeast, there are contemporary outbuildings that are similarly detailed, likely serving as a stable and school latrines, contributing to the picturesque quality of the setting.

Inside, the dining room is located in the west wing, separated from the kitchen at the northern end of the main block by the school link corridor. The dog-leg stair features splat balusters, and the fireplace in the southern living room has been replaced.
