Description
The Church of St Theresa of Lisieux is a Grade II listed building constructed from limestone and featuring a copper sheet roof. It has a cruciform plan, with all arms ending in semi-circular apses. The entrance arm is extended and includes a triple semi-circular arched arcade on a raised podium, supported by marble columns with Byzantine style capitals. The apses and entrance arm have groups of three round-headed small windows positioned high in the walls, and the parapet above is set out on a corbel table. The church features a central dome topped with a cross, barrel vaults in the arms, and semi-domes over the apses.
Inside, the church has a simple design with plastered walls and high unmoulded arched openings leading to the wings, along with smaller arches over the apses. The splays of the main piers that support the dome include simple niches. The eastern apse is elevated and contains a priest's door to the left, along with marble flooring. The baptistery in the eastern apse features radially set grey slate flooring and a prominently designed font from 1971 by Victor Neep. The Chapel of St Teresa in the western apse has an octagonal slate floor. The entrance arm is ceiled, above which is the choir gallery.
