Description

The Pen-y-bont Inn is a two-storey building with an attic, dating from an unspecified period. It features a painted roughcast stone front and a slate roof, complemented by red brick gable chimneys and overhanging eaves. The central block has three windows and is flanked by two-storey splayed bays that have their sills at plinth level; the ground floor glazing bars in these bays have been removed. The attic windows are casement types, while the lower floor has mostly horned small-pane sash windows, including a prominent 16-pane window above the central entrance. This entrance is adorned with a bracketed hood and a modern door with an overlight. To the left, there is a one-window extension that is stepped down and features a hipped roof, a horned 12-pane sash window, and an offset doorway. The ground floor is set back significantly, and at the rear, there is a rubble cross range that backs onto the river. To the right, where the eaves have been raised, there is a flat carriage arch with a keystone and boarded gates, along with a 12-pane sash window above. The gable stacks are present, and the rear of the building includes sliding-sash attic windows, one small-pane sash window, and a modernized cross range that was formerly used as stables.
