Description

The Castle, known as Y Castell, is a building constructed from limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and topped with a slate roof. It stands three storeys high and includes cellars. The facade facing Dundonald Avenue features four bays, with a central door that is partly glazed and has an overlight. The ground and first floors have 12-paned hornless sash windows, while the top floor has 9-paned sash windows. The right corner of the building is splayed and includes a pair of half-glazed doors beneath a lantern supported by a cast iron bracket, with a panel above displaying the name Y CASTELL against a red painted background. The elevation facing Pleasant Place has a similar design, consisting of seven bays above a chamfered plinth, with comparable windows and wedge lintels. This side has doors located in the fourth and sixth bays, with the door in the second bay replaced by a 12-pane sash window. The windows adjacent to the doors in the splayed corner have also been replaced. Buff brick stacks are present on the roof.
