The Towers, 43-47 East Quality Street, Dysart

The Towers, located at 43-47 East Quality Street in Dysart, dates back to 1589, with alterations and a forecourt wall added in the 18th century. The building underwent restoration in 1965. It is a three-storey, four-bay, L-plan tenement featuring corbelled and crowstepped elements. The exterior is harled with painted margins, and the top stage of the square stair tower is corbelled.

On the southeast elevation, there is an advanced stair tower to the right, which has small openings arranged asymmetrically and a corbelled top stage. The doorway, which is corniced and pilastered, features a panelled timber door and a multi-pane fanlight to the left. Above the door is a window with a lower timbered light and a stone apron that meets the cornice, along with a dated monogrammed panel initialled 'CL' and 'KL'. The central and left bays have recessed faces with windows on each floor, while the right side has a smaller ground floor window and a blank bay above, leading to a broad, stepped stack that breaks the eaves.

The northeast elevation shows a bay to the right with a slightly lower adjoining building beneath a broad gablehead stack, and a small window on the return to the left at the second floor. To the left, there is a recessed stair tower with a tiny window close to the corbel below the top stage.

The southwest elevation features a lower modern building adjoining at the ground and first floor, with a small window on the outer left at the second floor and a broad gablehead stack. The northwest elevation has asymmetrical fenestration with a door on the outer left.

The windows are timber sash and case with small-pane glazing patterns, and the roof is covered with grey slates. The harled stacks are coped and fitted with cans.

Inside, the interior is modern, featuring a turnpike stair with segmental-headed openings, splayed soffits, and a niche, possibly where a window has been blinded.

The forecourt wall is an ashlar-coped harled enclosure wall with rusticated quoins.
