Description

69 East Quality Street in Dysart is a classical house dating from around 1800. It is a two-storey building with an attic and has three bays, situated within an irregular terrace to the southwest. The exterior is made of stone-cleaned droved ashlar with raised quoins and margins, while the side and rear are harled. Notable features include a deep base course, a first-floor cill course, a fluted frieze with rosettes, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course. The first-floor windows have moulded architraves.

The southeast elevation, which is the principal front, features a pilastered doorway topped with a consoled cornice. The entrance includes a deep-set panelled timber door and a plate glass fanlight at the center, flanked by windows in the outer bays, with regular fenestration on the first floor. Above the outer bays, there are small piended slate-hung dormer windows.

The building has modern plate glass windows and is roofed with graded grey slates. It has coped ashlar stacks with cans and thackstanes, as well as ashlar-coped skews. A cast-iron downpipe with a decorative rainwater hopper and fixings is located to the right on the southeast side.

Inside, there is a semi-elliptical archway leading to a U-plan staircase with slim gothick cast-iron balusters. The first floor remains relatively unaltered, featuring large and small drawing rooms at the front. These rooms have semi-elliptically arched recesses back to back in the dividing wall. The larger drawing room boasts a fine wood and gesso chimneypiece with a marble slip, and its recess is adorned with Corinthianesque pilasters. There is also a good cast-iron grate in the attic.
