Description
The Royal Hotel in Dysart is an early 19th-century hotel with a rectangular plan, featuring two and three stories. It is situated on ground that slopes to the southwest and has a painted render finish with stone margins, some dressed quoins, and painted brick at the rear. The building has base and eaves courses, along with moulded string courses on the three-storey section.
On the northwest elevation, the three-storey block is located to the right and includes a central two-leaf panelled timber door with a plate glass fanlight above, flanked by windows in the outer bays. Each floor above has four regularly spaced windows. To the left is a two-storey block with a door positioned to the right of centre at ground level, two windows to the left, and a corbelled angle at the outer left. A modern window is located to the right, and there are four windows on the first floor.
The southeast elevation appears to have been rebuilt in brick and features a single-storey projection off-centre to the left of the three-storey bays, along with a metal fire escape and an orielled timber bathroom to the right.
The windows are primarily timber sash and case with 4-pane and plate glass glazing patterns, except for the modern window. The three-storey block is topped with purple slates, and it has coped ashlar gablehead stacks and ashlar-coped skews, while the lower block has modern tiles.
