Black Bull Hotel, 15 Black Bull Street, Duns

The Black Bull Hotel, located at 15 Black Bull Street in Duns, is an early 19th-century building that has undergone later alterations. It is a three-storey, three-bay hotel constructed with dry-dash and features ashlar margins that are painted.

On the northeast elevation facing Black Bull Street, there is a central squat Doric doorpiece with half-engaged columns and a dentilled cornice, leading to a deep-set panelled door. To the right, there is a bipartite window with chamfered reveals, and to the left, a broad rectangular window with etched and stained glass and an arched central panel. The upper floors have windows in all bays, positioned close to the eaves on the second floor. To the left, there is a single-storey, single-bay extension with a stepped parapet that conceals a lean-to roof, featuring a deep-set door with a gabled architrave.

The northwest elevation shows a blank gable on the left, with a stair window flanking to the right. There is a three-bay block to the right that includes windows on the second floor. Attached garages are present at the ground and first floors.

The southwest elevation is not visible due to a 1994 alteration. The southeast elevation has a blank gable on the right with a single-storey extension at the ground level. To the left is an irregular three-bay block with timber sash and case windows, including 12-pane, plate glass, and 2-pane styles. The roofs are pitched, covered with grey slates, and feature ashlar coped skews and rebuilt brick stacks.
