Description
91 George Street in Edinburgh is a former classical house built between 1785 and 1790, with later alterations. It is a three-storey building with a basement and features four bays. The exterior is made of droved and broached cream ashlar sandstone, with long and short quoins, a cill course at the first floor, and an eaves cornice. The outer right bay is broader and includes a modern Ionic pilastered doorpiece that has a two-leaf panelled door topped with an arched fanlight featuring radiating glazing.
The roof has three corniced bipartite box-dormers, and an ashlar stair tower protrudes from the roof at the eastern apex. The windows are timber sash and case, with 12 panes on the ground and second floors, and 15 panes on the first floor, all covered with grey slates.
The interior was not seen in 1995. Additionally, there are mid-19th century cast-iron railings and a pair of lamp standards.
