86A George Street, Edinburgh

86A George Street in Edinburgh is a late 18th century building that was refaced in 1832, with later 19th century shop fronts added. It stands three stories high with an attic and features six bays, with shops extending out at the ground level. The exterior is made of polished cream sandstone ashlar, with closely spaced bays. The ground floor has a unified corniced front, with a pair of modernized shops on either side of an arched doorway leading to the upper floors. The first floor windows are adorned with architraves and cornices, and there is a cornice and blocking course at the top. Flanking the central dormer are two later 19th century canted corniced piend-roofed dormers that are similar to the bipartite dormer in the middle.

The rear elevation is constructed of coursed rubble and features a full-height bow on the eastern side. The building has timber sash and case windows with 12 panes. The roof is finished with ashlar coped skews, rendered stacks, and grey slates.

Inside, the eastern shop (No 86) includes a top-lit saloon at the rear, while the western shop also extends to the rear.
