Description

92 George Street in Edinburgh is a late 18th-century building that was remodeled by MacGibbon and Ross in 1879. It is a three-storey structure with an attic and features two bays of offices with a shop on the ground floor. The exterior is finished in painted ashlar and showcases a constructivist American stick-style design, characterized by framing pilasters. The ground floor has been extended to create a four-bay shop, which includes a bracketed cornice adorned with sunflower emblems.

To the right, there is a diminishing bay window that extends from the first floor to the attic, topped with a piended roof and a finial. The left side features single windows, with stop-chamfered slim mullions and transoms on the first floor, and pilasters on the second floor. The building has broad consoled cornices and balconies, although the ironwork has been removed. Later additions include glazing that connects the dormers and a slate-hung lift tower.

The elevation facing the lane exhibits an International style with concrete and Crittal windows, and there is a flying link to Rose Street. The first floor has plate glass windows, while the second floor and attic feature timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slates.

Unfortunately, the original interior was lost to a fire.
