Description
Par Signal Box is a 20th-century structure, specifically constructed for railway operations. The ground floor is made of brick, while the upper storey features a timber frame and weatherboarding. The hipped roof is covered with artificial slates.
The building is rectangular and two storeys high, with an operating room on the upper floor and a locking room below. It overlooks railway tracks to both the west and east, and the operating room has continuous glazing on all four sides, except for the west half of the north gable end. The windows are late-20th-century uPVC replacements that mimic the original sliding sash casements and glazing bars. A short flight of wooden steps connects the platform level to the door leading to the operating floor. Both the east and west elevations have recessed, square-headed openings on the ground floor, which still contain their original windows.
Inside, the signal box retains a lever frame with 57 levers, which was installed around 1913, along with a modern control panel that was added in 1986.
