Description
Torre Signal Box is a three-storey structure built from English-bond red brick, featuring blue engineering brick detailing around the windows, plinth, and quoins. The roof is covered in slate and the building has a rectangular plan.
The front, which faces the tracks, is symmetrical with three bays. The ground floor has a row of six-pane windows, while the first floor features three larger nine-pane windows. The second floor is clad in weatherboarding and includes a continuous observation window made up of sliding timber casements that extend around the sides to the rear. The south-east side has a ground-floor door and an additional six-pane casement window. At the rear, there are three nine-pane windows on the first floor and a small window to the right. The north-west side has another entrance door and steps leading from the basement to the platform. As of 2013, all windows and entrances are boarded over. The shallow-pitched, hipped roof has bracketed eaves and two ventilators on the ridge.
Inside, a theft in 2004 resulted in the loss of some operational equipment. There is an internal stair at the north end. The ground floor is split over two levels and includes a battery store. The first floor has most of the original equipment removed and is largely empty except for a WC. The second floor still retains the signal levers and an original stove, as of 2010.
