Description

The Primary Barn at Graiglwyd Farmhouse is a long rubble structure with a partly-slated roof, currently undergoing repairs as of July 1995. The original square-panel wall frames featured rubble gables, and the vertical masonry breaks between these and the later rubble infill are clearly visible. There are central opposing entrances, which are doorless, with wide, chamfered pine doorcases and oak lintels. A further blocked entrance is located to the far right, beyond a small modern brick lean-to. Long ventilation slits, which are partly blocked, can be found on both long sides of the barn. Additionally, there is a small later rubble lean-to attached to the upper southern gable.

To the right of the original barn, there is a 2-bay extension from the late 19th century, constructed of rubble and slate, featuring a central boarded door. A long contemporary ramp leads from right to left to provide access to this elevated entrance.

The original section of the barn consists of five bays and includes collar and tie-beam trusses, with some tie-beams still showing their braces. Tension bracing is also visible on the eastern side, where wall posts and the wall plate can be discerned behind the rubble infill. The 2-bay extension has a bolted A-frame.
