Description

This is an early 17th-century rubble barn located to the west of Cwmannog. It features an 18th-century additional bay at the upper end and a c. 1895 extension that is stepped down and adjoins the lower end. The barn has an old slate roof with some areas patched with corrugated iron and is built on boulder foundations.

There are opposing off-centre entrances to the main barn, each with old boarded doors. A plain window opening is located to the upper left, with a boarded entrance beyond it, and an open entrance at the far right. On the west side, there is another plain window opening to the right. The lower gable end has two ventilation slits, one above the other, along with further blocked slits visible internally on the long sides. The upper gable end features a crude boarded section, which may be original, and has a loading entrance in the centre.

Adjoining the main barn is the additional bay, which is both stepped down and set back slightly, and has a tin-sheeted roof. It includes a plain opening facing the farmyard. The lower addition is constructed of dressed and coursed slate blocks, featuring a central entrance flanked by open windows, all with large dressed slate lintels.

Inside the primary barn, there is a four-bay pegged oak roof of the tie-beam and raking strut type, with construction marks clearly visible. Most of the purlins and rafters have been replaced.
