Description
The Incline Drumhouse and Sett Makers Huts at Penmaenmawr Quarry date from the early 20th century and feature a counterbalance incline drumhouse made of snecked rubble. The drumhouse has wide buttressing on the gable ends that face the partly disturbed incline, and its roof is covered with timber planking. Inside, the original pine drum and steel cables are still in place between the thick gable walls, and the brake mechanism is visible on the exterior.
To the east of the drumhouse, there is a series of seven contemporary sett makers' huts or cubicles where quarried stone was processed into setts. These huts are also constructed of snecked rubble and are open at the front. They have dividing walls, with the two northernmost huts sharing a supporting pillar but lacking a dividing wall. Each cubicle features a tool niche in the rear wall, and one wall displays graffiti dated 1921. The roofs of the huts are made of flat, mid-20th century concrete.
