Description

Penmaenmawr Railway Station is a 2-storey T-shaped building constructed of rubble, featuring scribed render on all sides except the central rear side facing the road. It has a shallow-pitched, hipped slate roof with slightly overhanging eaves, and includes two central and two end chimneys, all rendered and adorned with cornice bands. The platform facade is nearly symmetrical with eight bays, showcasing marginally-glazed plain sash windows on the upper floor, which have plain stucco returned labels.

On the ground floor, there are two central entrances with similar labels and contemporary 4-panel doors. To the right, there are two boarded windows along with an additional entrance and window beyond. To the left, there is a blocked former entrance and another entrance leading to the final recessed bay. A continuous slated verandah-type roof covers the ground floor, wrapping around the sides and supported at the corners by cast iron braced columns and a series of regularly spaced corbelled brackets along the facade, featuring pierced geometric decoration.

This verandah continues around the west side to the rear, where the platform entrance is located. The entrance is segmental-arched and chamfered, retaining its original wooden slatted gate with simple shaped finials. A tall, stone-coped wall extends from the entrance westward along the rear of the platform for approximately 10 meters, where it steps up at a footbridge over the tracks. On the east side of the building, a similar adjoining wall stretches for about 15 meters along the rear of the platform, stepping down to terminate. This stretch of wall includes three segmental arched openings, which are now blocked and appear as niches.
