Description

Rapallo House is a two-storey house with an attic, featuring a ground floor made of red brick and an upper floor that is plastered with applied half-timbering. The roof is covered with plaintiles. The entrance elevation, facing south, includes a semi-octagonal corner bay topped with a squat spire at the west end. To the east, there is a recessed bay; the upper floor of this bay has applied half-timbering and is pierced by a doorway that leads to a loggia. The third bay is narrow and has a doorway on the ground floor. The fourth bay features a wide gable end with applied timber framing on the upper floor, which includes a four-light oriel bay window, and a five-light transomed window with terracotta mullions on the ground floor.

The garden elevation, facing east, has an external brick chimney breast towards the south end, with a round-headed window at its base. The second bay, which also has two storeys and an attic, features an overhanging timber-framed gable supported by brackets. This gable has a small two-light transomed window in the attic storey, a canted bay window of three lights on the first floor, and a shallow five-light rectangular bay window on the ground floor. The third bay includes a canted oriel bay window on the first floor. The west side elevation has the storeyed semi-octagonal bay window at its southern end, as seen from the front elevation. The second bay from the south end has a loggia on the first floor, with a wooden mullion and transom window in the main wall of the house behind it, along with a single-light window below. The third bay features applied timber framing on the upper floor, which includes a three-light mullion window with small panes, and a doorway on the ground floor.
