Farmbuildings at Llechan-uchaf

The farm buildings at Llechan-uchaf form an extensive group, featuring a main three-sided courtyard that includes a barn and cartshed, with cowhouse and stables in the flanking wings, as well as a secondary courtyard to the southwest. The buildings are constructed from roughly coursed rubble and topped with slate roofs.

The barn has a central entrance with an opposing rear doorway, featuring a timber lintel and a datestone above that bears the initials E over D J S. Low-set ventilation slits are present in the flanking bays. To the right of the barn, beyond a straight joint, is the cartshed, which has paired cambered archways and small loft lights positioned below the eaves.

The right-hand wing of the complex includes a doorway flanked by windows on the left, with an additional door and window to the right. All openings are topped with timber lintels. The left wing features a doorway on the left side with irregularly spaced flanking windows, along with another doorway and window to the right. There is a series of vents in the rear wall of this wing, which forms one side of the secondary yard. Originally, this area contained further cattle accommodation, likely feeding sheds that provided access to the yard, but it has now been converted to stabling, with the original pattern of openings still traceable.

Inside, the barn boasts a shouldered king-post truss roof, a stone flagged threshing floor, and a loft door leading to the granary above the cartshed.
