Description
Plas Celynin is a rectangular two-storey Regency house built around 1810, likely serving as the rectory for the new church in Llangelynin. The building is constructed of rubble, with the main front rendered, and features a shallow-pitched, hipped slate roof with wide eaves and plain, squat stacks. The symmetrical main front faces west and has a projecting central bay that includes a ground-floor timber bay window, which is canted and has a lead roof. On the ground floor, there are elegant flanking 15-pane recessed sash windows, while the upper floor features 12-pane sashes.
On the south side, there is a deeply-recessed arched entrance with a contemporary six-panelled door and radial glazing in the arched fan above. At the rear, a full-height mono-pitch service projection has been extended to create a gabled rear wing, which includes additional 12- and 15-pane windows and a modern French door. There is also a single-storey lean-to structure in the northeast corner.
The interior was not accessible during the inspection in September 1995. Overall, Plas Celynin is an elegant Regency villa situated in a prominent location, retaining much of its external character.
