Description
Henryd Farmhouse is an early 17th century farmhouse with 18th and 19th century service additions. It is a single storey building with an attic, constructed of rubble on boulder foundations, and was formerly whitened. The medium-pitched roof is made of undulating slate, and the gable parapets are rendered. The house features end chimneys, with the left one being larger and having weather-coursing and modern render. The entrance is off-centre to the right and has a modern enclosed porch that does not match the character of the building. To the left of the entrance is a slightly-recessed 12-pane sash window, which is a modern replacement with a ceramic tiled cill. Above, there are two small gabled dormers with modern replacement windows of 9 panes, which are also rendered.
To the east of the farmhouse is a former stable block, likely from the 18th century, which is stepped down and set back. It has a slate roof and off-centre stable doors to the left with an exposed timber lintel. Adjacent to this is a later carthouse extension, probably from the early 19th century, which is also stepped down and slightly set back. At the rear of the house is a later 17th century service extension, built in the same style as the main house.
Inside, the hall features a stopped-chamfered bressumer above a large end fireplace and a similar main ceiling beam. To the right of the fireplace is a good stone corkscrew newel stair, with an original oak upper doorcase and a pegged Tudor-arched opening. There is a similar, but plainer opening leading to the rear service extension. A contemporary oak post-and-panel partition screen separates the former hall and parlour, decorated with simple grooves, while the parlour ceiling has plain joists.
This 17th century vernacular farmhouse retains many original interior details and is located in a prominent village setting. It has group value with Henryd Independent Chapel.
