Description
Fach Ddeiliog, also known as the Bala Lakeside Hotel, is a long, single-storey building that is symmetrically planned, featuring two-storey cross wings at either end and a large canted central bay. It is constructed from local stone and has been whitewashed, topped with a slate roof that includes narrow rectangular ridge stacks with dripstones and capping. The eaves extend along the front of the single-storey range, bracketed around the central bay and supported by slender columns, creating a verandah on either side. The central bay is adorned with tall 15-pane hornless sash windows, while the flanking sections have timber-framed casements and French windows.
The house retains its original ground plan in the front part, with the main rooms still featuring inter-connecting doorways, which are now blocked, and a service corridor at the rear. This layout was described in Fenton's Tours in Wales from 1804 to 1813. The 'old house' at the rear has been replaced by modern additions that were constructed during the restoration of the building in the late 20th century and early 21st century.
