Description
2 Lion Yard is a pair of single-storey picturesque vernacular cottages, with a basement on the right. They are constructed from rubble masonry, with mortar applied widely. The side and rear of the cottages are whitewashed. The steeply pitched slate roof features plain eaves and close verges, and there are three stone stacks with water tabling.
The left cottage has three windows, each with 12-pane sash windows and stone lintels. The doorway is located between the second and third windows and features a diamond-glazed rectangular fanlight above a plank door. A stone staircase with sidewalls winds down to the street, positioned across the front to the right.
The right cottage has one window, which is a 16-pane sash window with a stone lintel. To the left, there is a 6-panel narrow door from the 19th century, also with a stone lintel. A stone staircase winds down to the street alongside the staircase of the other cottage. There is a modern doorway to the basement on the right.
On the left gable end of the right cottage, there is a loft window. At ground level, there is a window and doorway to the basement, both with stone lintels and modern fittings. The rear of the smaller cottage features an outshot with a 16-pane sash window set under the eaves, while the other cottage has a modern multipaned casement window at the rear and a modern window to the basement, also with a stone lintel.
