Description

Quay Cottage is a building constructed from rubble and topped with a slate roof featuring decorative ridge details and three small 20th-century skylights. The left gable has a cemented rubble finish, and there are squat end stacks with weather coursing; the right stack is mostly incorporated into a later adjoining building, while the left has a tall brick upper section, a late 19th-century alteration. The facade is pebbledashed with a raised cement entablature framing the central recessed entrance, which features a late Victorian door with glazed upper panels. The windows are late Victorian sashes with two panes and projecting slate cills.

Adjoining to the right at a right angle, there is a small single-storey building made of rendered rubble and slate, likely a former wash house or shop from the 19th century. This building has a recessed, part-glazed Victorian door on the street-facing gable end and a plain squat chimney above it, along with a 9-pane near-flush sash window on the west side wall.

Inside, the entrance hall boasts a Victorian geometric tiled floor. A fine three-storey early 19th-century well stair features a swept mahogany rail, with oak treads and risers leading to the first floor, then transitioning to pine. The balusters display a flat iron triple lozenge motif alternating with stick balusters, and the tread-ends are scrolled. Off the hall are early 19th-century six-panelled doors, with the room to the left featuring an internal reeded doorcase with corner rosettes. The right-hand room contains a large inglebeam, and all ground and first-floor windows have panelled shutters.
