Description
5 Bryn Eglwys is part of a group of three single-storey cottages located in Llandygai, designed in a simple 'vernacular revival' style. The cottages feature attics in gabled wings that project on either side of a lower central range. They are constructed from roughly coursed rubblestone and have slate-stone lintels. The slate roof has overhanging verges and carved ends on the purlins.
The symmetrical front displays a layout of 1:3:1 bays, with the gables featuring three-light windows on the ground floor and two-light windows above. The original window openings, which now contain 20th-century windows, flank the central entrance to the central range (No. 6), which has a 20th-century glazed door. The entrances to Nos. 5 and 7 are accessed through gabled porches made of slate slabs on the outer returns.
Prominent red brick ridge stacks with stepped capping are located to the left and right of the central range, along with shorter integral stacks at the rear gable ends of the gabled ranges. The interior was not inspected at the time of the survey.
