Description
The gateway, dated 1634, is located in the northern boundary wall of the Terrace Garden opposite Vaynol Old Hall. It is constructed of dressed stone and features a four-centred arched design with a stepped hood. The gateway has a projecting keystone that is initialled TW/K, along with a stilted hoodmould and moulded jambs. The spandrels have eroded over time. Inside the arch, there is an inscription on the soffit that reads, "Ye mystic Garden Fold Me Close I love Thee Well," along with "Beloved Vaynol" below it. The opening is adorned with a scrolled 17th-century ironwork gate that has a flat pointed arch.
