Description
The classical bust on a stele is located in a niche of the garden wall at Vaynol Old Hall. The stele is made of limestone and is painted. It features a classical bust of a young woman with wavy hair tied with a ribbon, dressed in a draped himation. The bust is set on a plinth and mounted on an inverted-tapered stele, which has a recessed front designed as a moulded panel, with decorative husks at both the top and bottom. The stele includes a moulded die and a two-stage square base. There is a small concrete repair on the chin of the bust. The niche, which has a properly chamfered lower part, has been later altered in a rustic style to create a two-centred arched recess.
