Description

The Best Stables, located on the south side of Vaynol Old Hall, is a 19th-century stable building constructed of stone with a slate roof. It is a single-storey structure featuring a five-bay stable range, characterized by segmental-headed horned sash windows that have voussoirs and keystones. The central boarded door is topped by a tall paned fanlight.

The interior remains unaltered and was fitted out by Young & Co. of London. It includes fine mahogany fronts and stanchions for the three stalls, which are adorned with railings at the top and tall columns topped with nickel-plated ball finials. The walls are boarded up to dado height, above which there is a band of green and white hexagonal tiles. Panelled cross beams support the loft above, and the building features a central roof ventilator. The floor is laid with diagonal brick pavoirs, and there is cold running water with a lead basin and troughs. A door provides access to the service range of the Old Hall.
