Description
The terraced garden to the north of Vaynol Old Hall is a walled garden designed in a late medieval to early Renaissance style. It rises from south to north away from the front of the Old Hall and is surrounded on three sides by tall rubble stone walls. Axial rounded steps lead to a narrow crosswalk, which features a private chapel at the west end. From this crosswalk, squared steps ascend to the next level of the garden. In the upper section, there is a circular pond located at a key point along the upper wall, and at the center of the pond is a gateway with inscriptions that provides access to the next walled garden behind the later Dairy Cottage.
