Description

Cilcoed is a classically detailed building from the 19th century, featuring two storeys and a basement with a rendered front that has two windows on the upper floor and one on the lower. The slate roof has wide eaves, a coved cornice, and cement-rendered chimney stacks. The building is accentuated by rusticated quoins, a panelled entablature, cill bands, and a cornice above the first floor. The windows are horned four-pane sashes with panelled architraves and bracket cornices, with an additional window at the extreme left end that has a rusticated border to the right.

The main entrance is elliptical arched, with a bracket cornice above a half-glazed door that features coloured glass sidelights and a fanlight adorned with a heraldic shield. The right gable end has decorative bargeboards and a small pane sash on the first floor. To the left, there is a two-storey cross range with a bracket pediment over a rear gable end first-floor window sash that has marginal glazing bars. Below this is a bay window with a dentil cornice and coloured glass margins, similar to a bay on the main rear elevation. The rear porch has good decorative bargeboards with a finial and pendant, and a segmental arched window with frosted glass. French windows with pedimented cornices and marginal glazing bars are located on the inner side of the cross range, though the cornice to the right is largely mutilated.

The forecourt to the right and rear is walled and gated, with a boarded door opening onto the road. Inside, the cross range is particularly noteworthy, featuring elaborate cornices with egg and dart, grapes, and other foliage details, as well as large plaster ceiling roses.
