Description
Bryn Alyn House is a building featuring scribed cement render and a slate roof with bracketed eaves and end chimney stacks. It stands three storeys tall and has a symmetrical three-window front with a projecting central bay and a plinth. The central entrance is adorned with a polygonal porch that has a railed balcony above. On each side of the entrance are later stone splayed bays, with nine and twelve-pane sash windows on the upper floor and four-pane sashes in the bays.
To the right, there is a long two-window return elevation that includes a cross range with a two-storey splayed bay. The windows throughout are multipaned horned sashes. At the rear, there is a courtyard that features sash windows and some 20th-century windows, with an entrance beside a deep lean-to.
Attached at right angles is a low two-storey rubble range with a tall hipped roof and chimney, which has been enlarged at the left end. One window in this range has stone voussoirs, while another end features a brick voussoired arch. At the rear of this range, where it meets the cross range, there is a low rounded projection set into the corner.
Although not accessible during the 1995 survey, it is reported to have remained unchanged since its 1991 listing, when it was noted for its generally late Georgian character, including architraves, cornices, and panelled shutters. The ground floor features six-panel doors, the first floor has five-panel doors, and the second floor contains four-panel doors. The interior includes a simple staircase with turned balusters.
Additionally, there is a contemporary former stable and coach-house range made of rubble, featuring roughly squared quoins, cambered arched openings, and tall boarded doors, which is attached to a wall immediately behind the building.
